Highlands Vineyard  - Chiang Mai

At the Skugga Highlands Experimental Vineyard we grow the following wine grape varieties:

Shiraz: Known for its bold and spicy character, Shiraz offers rich flavors of dark fruit,, and sometimes hints of chocolate. This versatile grape thrives in warm climates, producing wines that can be both robust andvety.

 

Barbera: A grape that hails Italy, Barbera is celebrated for its vibrant acidity and juicy red fruit flavors, often accompanied by notes of cherry and plum. Its approachable nature makes it a favorite for casual sipping and pairing with a of dishes.

 

Cabernet Sauvignon: Renowned for its full-bodied, Cabernet Sauvignon is characterized by deep flavors of blackcurrant, cedar, and sometimes a touch of green bell pepper. This grape variety is aged in oak, enhancing its complexity and creating a memorable experience. Cabernet Franc: Often seen as lighter alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon,

 

Cabernet Franc: features fresh fruit flavors, such as raspberry and bell pepper, alongside herbal notes. It is versatile, making it a delightful choice for blends as well as single varietal wines.

 

Chenin Blanc: This versatile white grape can produce a range of styles, from dry to. Chenin Blanc is known for its acidity and expressive flavors of apple, pear, and honey, making it an excellent choice for refreshing wines and dessert styles. Viognier: Famous for its aromatic profile

 

Viognier: is celebrated for its floral notes and flavors of stone fruit, such as peach and apricot. With its lush texture, it often offers a rich mouth and is a delightful companion to spicy dishes.

Located at 350 meters above sea level in the Mae On Highlands, our vineyard benefits from:

  • January: Coolest month, highs 85°F (29°C), lows 59°F (15°C)

  • February: Transitioning from cool to hot season

  • March-April: Hot season, highs 94-97°F (34-36°C) 

  • May: End of hot season, beginning of wet season

  • June-October: Wet season with significant rainfall but still many sunny days

  • November: Transition to cool season

  • December: Cool, comfortable temperatures
